Accomplishments
Academic Opportunities
Increased A-G completion rates by 5% (preparedness for college), participation in Career Technical Education (CTE) courses by 4%, and AP/IB participation by 3%.
Implemented new literacy training for teachers in grades K-3 incorporating the science of reading, leading to a significant rise in literacy rates by 3rd grade.
Invested $18M in a new visual and performing arts master plan, including a program to give every elementary school student access to music and theater classes.
Future Priorities
Address falling math proficiency rates post-covid, and improve math proficiency across all grade levels in the district.
Encourage greater participation in Career Technical Education (CTE) courses, and provide new CTE programs through greater partnerships with local businesses and trade partners.
Expand literacy programs to address falling English Language Arts (ELA) proficiency and improve ELA outcomes for students.
Campus Safety, Health, & Wellness
Hired more campus security staff, and invested heavily in physical campus security measures, including adding fencing, remodeling entry points, and installing security cameras, while also updating our policy on student privacy to specify the circumstances under which security camera footage can be used.
Hired new counselors, social workers, and nurses, to support the physical and mental health needs of all students.
Implemented a “restorative practices” program that creates new paths for student discipline that emphasize developmentally appropriate consequences other than suspension.

21st Century Educational Facilities
Invested over $250m in facilities modernization and new facility construction to ensure that students are learning in state-of-the-art facilities and classrooms.
Updated aging facilities to comply with new Americans with Disabilities Act standards in order to ensure accessibility and opportunities for students with disabilities.
Approved our ten year facilities master plan, which includes three new campuses in the Elk Grove, Rancho Cordova, and Vineyard areas.
Future Priorities
Bring new schools online in south Elk Grove and Rancho Cordova to alleviate crowding in those areas, including a middle and high school in Rancho Cordova.
Ensure that all new construction and modernization includes facilities for Career Technical Education (CTE) and pathway programs to provide students with opportunities relevant to the modern workforce.
Research and Adopt a Climate Action Plan to explore how our facilities will need to be improved to protect students from rising heat during summer and fall months, make our facilities more resilient to flooding, and address other environmental considerations.
Teacher/Staff Recruitment & Retention
Secured a 10% raise for teachers and staff in 2023, while also bringing all staff salaries up to a competitive level with other schools in the region.
Secured a 2-3% raise for teachers and staff in 2025, despite enormous economic uncertainty, while also ensuring that contingencies protected the district in the event of a negative turn in the economy.
Facilitated meetings to address teacher concerns and morale during difficult times or following incidents on campus.
Future Priorities
Continue to ensure that salaries and benefits are competitive in the region to ensure that we continue to be a destination school district for educators in California.
Good Governance & Fiscal Responsibility
Managed a $30m budget shortfall in 2024 without layoffs.
Prioritized greater accountability on parent and student reporting, resulting in over $11m in new revenue for the district.
Invested over $60m in covid recovery grants into visual and performing arts programs, new health and wellness staff, campus security staff, and a variety of programs intended to help students succeed on campus and recovery learning and developmental loss following the pandemic.
Served as EGUSD’s representative to the California School Board Association (CSBA) Delegate Assembly.
Future Priorities
Continue to keep politics out of the boardroom and the classroom, and ensure that board meetings prioritize the work of the district over the performative politics of board members.
Continue to advocate for additional resources for schools at the federal, state, and local level to ensure that student have access to a high quality education in Elk Grove.
